General back care.

The treatment offered by the Back Care Clinic should bring you lasting relief. But there are other things that you can do to help your back.

What to expect following treatment

  • During a treatment joints are mobilised in a way that has never been possible before with traditional manual therapy, so it is normal for the tissue surround the joints and the joints themselves to sometimes be sore or have a "bruised" feeling following a treatment. This soreness often subsides 1-2 days following a treatment. This does not happen to everyone, but should not be anything to worry about if it does.,
  • If not contraindicated, e.g. if the patient suffers with asthma, Ibuprofen can be helpful with the management of soreness noted after a treatment, or Arnica.
  • The best results are obtained if the first few treatments are closer together, e.g. 1-2 days in order to maximise results, although I usually suggest gap of a week for the 3rd treatment, in order to allow a little healing time, particularly with elderly patients, some of whom have been in their 90s!
  • Other side effects of treatment can be improved mobility, improved posture, gaining lost height (up to 2" in some patients), a general sense of wellbeing, patients may feel  tired and sleeping better the evening of the first treatment; rarely but sometimes patients may report more frequent urinations, to remove toxins in the body, similar to having a deep massage. Sometimes treatment may release an emotional response, laughter, tears, or a feeling that a cage has been released giving a greater sense of freedom and improved breathing.
  • We recommend that patients continue with their  treatment until full range of motion is achieved and full joint mobility and suppleness is restored, even if the symptoms of pain have subsided. This is important because it can prevent sumptoms from re-occurring.
  • Patients should maintain their suppleness by having 3 to 6 monthly MOTs (maintenance sessions).
  • The Back Care Clinic also recommends posture-enhancing, clinically tested footwear called Ciabasan. If you are interested in knowing more about this click here. Ciabasan posture enhancing footwear.

1. Walk tall 10 minutes a day for 10 days following treatment, tummy in and chest out or better still wear our posture trainers. Worn at home for 10 minutes at a time initially the Daily Express reported that our trainers gave the best posture 9/10 compare to other posture shoes.  They may not be the most beautiful shoes, they are not a fashion shoe but a health shoe,  but they will definitely improve your posture
