Can we help you?

The original PAMM (Power Assisted Micro-manipulator) became known as TAMARS ( Technology Assisted Micro-mobilisation and Reflex Stimulator). This has now been replaced with the Theraflex system (The original company is no longer operational). The treatment, has been successfully employed in helping people with mechanical back conditions. We endeavour to improve the mechanical efficiency of the spine and help the body to repair itself, which is the basis of osteopathy.

This is also why the programme  improves the agility and sports performance, by making it function correctly.

Some 97% of patients find that powered mobilisation brings them measurable and lasting relief. To understand exactly why it works see the Spinal Reconditioning section of this website (click here).

Contraindications

Contraindications are the same as for all physical therapy. There should be no open wounds, fractures, etc.  It is safe with pacemakers as there is no electricity going through the patient.  It is best avoided when the patient knows they are pregnant, where more traditional therapy may be used in conjunction with the equipment.   It is safe with osteoporosis, although would be used very lightly depending on the loss of bone density. Spinal stenosis is not a contraindication for treatment, but because it is an internal mechanical dysfunction, there is only a fifty fifty chance (the same as manual therapy) of whether treatment would help alleviate nerve pain, but is certainly worth a try. We would know in about 3 sessions whether there would be any difference, but the treatment would make the rest of the spine more supple, should any surgical intervention etc. be needed.

Stiffened spinal segments

How this this treatment works We work on the whole spine concentrating on the stiffened segments of the spine mobilising them to get the to work more efficiently e.g. the segments that are  stiff in this example are L2/3 and L4/5. The lack of movement in this area has to be compensated everytime we bend etc. and most commonly this compensation is done by L5/S1 at the base of the spine, but in this example L3/L4 joins in too.  If we mobilise all the stiffened segments in the spine, which we can with the TAMARS instrument,  we can now get the whole spine working more efficiently.   This is a major advancement in the treatment of spinal problems.

The loading of the affected joints is the mechanical equivalent of an elephant standing on your foot. The restoration of function is comparable to getting the elephant off the foot and the spectacular clinical results stem from that.

To function correctly the spine should be supple and elastic like the spine of a healthy teenager.  We work on the whole spine getting it to work as nature intended.  This is all achieved in approximately five sessions so you are back to work or sport quicker.

The procedure does not treat joint degeneration. Fortunately, when you get the elephant off the foot, the ability of the system to heal itself and adapt is remarkable.

Our aim is to improve suppleness and flexibility of the spine.

3 important things to note:

  • There is no magic manipulation or electrotherapy device that can reverse joint degeneration (we need to get the elephant off the foot to restore function and healing to take place and no other treatment can recondition the spine so effectively)
  • The imperative is to halt the overwork and overstessing of the affected joint
  • Even patients presenting with severe levels of joint degeneration can enjoy a pain free and active life, provided that an adequate level of supple elasticity is maintained

What is Osteopathy?
The Principles of osteopathy

  • To improve the functioning of the body by allowing freedom of movement of the joints and muscles

  • To improve the symmetry of the body, in order to improve the function (but not just for the sake of achieving symmetry)

  • To allow all the nerves freedom within the tissues to send signals correctly (a ‘trapped’ nerve causes pain and other problems)

  • To allow blood vessels freedom within the tissues to allow a good blood flow to all areas (poor blood flow creates areas which are prone to disease and problems)

  • To allow the lymphatic vessels freedom for the flow of lymph to drain the tissues (blockage of the lymphatic vessels increases the likelihood of pain, disease and other problems in the area)

Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis and treatment aimed at allowing the body to move freely and without pain. It is the most popular form of Natural Medicine in the U.K.

Osteopathy is about helping the body to be balanced and symmetrical and to be able to function normally. We make sure that there are no restrictions to the blood and nerve supply in the spine not just in cases of back pain but also for problems in the limbs and organs.
